The mother-daughter relationship is an important one. A recent study from University of Georgia has found that the mother-daughter relationship determines a girl’s future relationship skills and self esteem. This special relationship is different for everyone and whilst some might be best friends with their daughter other may struggle to connect. One of the key factors in trying to strengthen that bond is spending quality time together and communicating. This can be as simple as switching off the electronics at home and spend 15 minutes talking about your day, to completing an activity together such as preparing dinner or teaching her a life skill.
As a mother to a strong willed princess and having lost my mother young, I understand the importance of this relationship and whilst I always try to make sure she gets enough one on one time, life is busy and sometimes you need to stop and think about how much devoted time you give your daughters. Not driving, not on your phone, not watching TV, not cleaning up but actually just the two of your completely devoted to what you are doing together. I appreciate this is near on impossible for larger families with so many chores and so many needs to be met, one on one time is a luxury rarely met.
This is why creating activities mothers and daughter could do together was very important to me. It is time where mum and daughter come together to bond over something they both mutually enjoy and have no outside distractions.I know the value of these sessions and how they will help strengthen relationships and create important memories for the future.
